Plagas can influence their host's actions by latching onto the nervous system, taking control of and increasing aggression in human hosts dubbed Ganados, as well as forming a social cluster with other hosts. Unless the host's brain is destroyed, this influence is not total, allowing hosts to continue with their daily routines. All Plagas living in the 21st century are descendants of either of two species, one of which is artificial and was employed by the paramilitary cult Los Iluminados as part of its bioweapons project.
